Iran, Iraq discuss ways of furthering coop. in region

TEHRAN, May 01 (MNA) – Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki stressed the need for further expansion of bilateral relations with Iran in all fields.

In a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi, who officially started his mission in Baghdad last work, Nouri al-Maliki underlined the importance and necessity of joint work to promote the cooperation between Iran and Iraq in all fields; he also called for expanding the horizons of cooperation between two countries.

According to a statement issued by Maliki's office, he deemed the situation in region as critical and rough, saying to cross the difficult stage, we need behaviors appropriate to the nature of the current challenges and crises in the region.

Iraj Masjedi, for his part, pointing to the importance of opening up broad horizons for bilateral cooperation, in the interests of the two neighboring nations, expressed Iran’s willingness to continue to support Iraq in all fields.

Masjedi presented his copy of credentials to President Fuad Masum after arriving in Iraq, and met and discussed with Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Speaker of the Parliament Salim al-Jabouri.
